i don't know if you really want to know, but this is wrong. the greasemonkey tier checker is not reporting properly. at least for duels there is some kind of elo ranking. no more tiers. and god knows what happend with other modes. read some posts saying that elo is applied in every mode now. not sure if this is correct.

We know duel to be on ELO, and it lacks a sv_skillrating entry in serverinfo (reports 0, though I only checked it the once). The other games all return a rating, so I believe them to still be on the tier system.

Duel is still somehow connected to the up and down arrow system, as to how they work THAT out. Tiers are "faked" in this instance, a tier number is still reported and it tends to go up with good wins, down with bad losses but we know for fact now it uses ELO.

i mainly wanted a better idea of the server level i was joining stats don't matter to me, i just don't want to easy of a game if im at 20 and second is at 10 or worse i leave, i wanted to know why i was doing that so much, it turns out it was dropping me to tier2 when i was trying to play even to the server i was in i still think it would work better to base server level off the average of the best 4 or 5 players on the server

I play CA mostly nowadays, Duel before that. Imho the skillmatching startet to work after 50-100 matches. Servers are changing the skill level anyway. You can never be sure, that there isn't someone joining your game as 'very difficult'.

In CA the skill-matching works for me. Most games I join marked as 'matched' are fun. If I try I can be good, but its not boring. If I join 'more difficult' servers, the game gets harder.

I stopped caring about tiers, I just play and have fun. I can choose between fun games, easy games and hard games. Works :-)

Indeed for CA the skillmatching seems to be working quite well. If I join a 'your skill higher' game I tend to be the best or one of the best players and if I join 'More challenging' servers I tend to be one of the worst players.

What I would like to see different is:

1. The name for 'More challenging' servers. It implies that I would be able to do well if I try really hard. This, however, is not the case. Maybe more so in TDM and CTF matches. If I join a game with higher skilled players in TDM I will ruin the game most likely. This is also depending on how many players are on the server of course. If it's a 2v2 TDM game with one player who is clearly not as skilled it will ruin the game no matter what. (assuming it's a fairly competitive game) So, what I would like to see is a name that implies that you're not going to do well in that server and will probably ruin the game if you join it.

2. If you're in the highest tier of a gametype all the servers are either 'skill matched' or 'Your skill higher'. It would be nice to be able to see a difference between a tier 3 and tier 4 server. The difference between those is still huge and if a tier 5 player joins a tier 3 game he will end up with results like 50-1. If he joins a tier 4 server he probably will still be the most skilled player on that server, but not by such a margin.

I think I'll make a thread about this when the suggestion forums open again because I think more people feel the same way about these things.
