You would need special maps for this ... but thats not everything!
You would also want to make it more "competitive" ...as a RACE
with/between 2 or more players!
There are several/many possibilities ...
u dont even need a new gametype for this!
... like said in Post #1 .. some base maps, and the possibility to create maps by Prp/Premium ppl would be sufficient.
... this is not a defrag related issue ... ingame ladder is needed for all game types. ! In defrag itself I dont see an advantage to have many people on one map.
Just curiosity: How you want to implement the stuff without a new gametype?
i wont tell all my tricks!
but q3 has all necessary entities to make it happen ...
and qLive should have it too, if they havent removed them! <:
k, i show u the idea:

the pak includes "BasketBallz", "DodgeBallz" and "RaceBallz";
all are based on the Domination-Concept.
You must play them in TDM, and all players will spawn in their own "base"!
"RaceBallz" is abit like PacMan:
you need to run and pickUp HealthBubbles,
by which u gain extraPoints (instead of the timer)! <:
Defrag can maybe not be completely ported to QL, but the idea to have servers where you can play a game in which obstacles and speed are the key to winning is very nice! Grab a flag when spawning, cap it on the other end of the map, the time spent to cap is the time to beat. This can be done, and would also be very very very nice for newbies to practice their movement WITH other people, instead of alone in practice mode.
So defrag on itself: no, not possible, will only piss off hardcore Q3 defrag fans
But a gamemode of speed-capping: yes
Only issue I foresee is that it won't be so easy to get a lot of maps for this new gamemode, as the community of QL can NOT provide maps to the community.
the people who make the maps would prolly use, one way or another, illegal software (photoshop and whatnot), so there would be lawsuit-style-crap involved and it would suck. my suggestion to fix that would be to have a dedicated texture set to send to all mappers, with a ton of textures, all made with legit software, so the mappers wouldnt run into that problem.
then theres the thing about ripping off maps. lets say youre working on a map for 5 months, and you show it to a friend, and a few days later they go up to iD with your map (modified and unfinished and stuff) and take all teh credit + $$$. it would suck.
I think the best possibility would be, if people have to agree to some terms, wihch says somethin like "I am responsible for all content of this map, ID has nothing to do with it .. blabla" before giving a map free for other players. Sothat ID cannot be punished by law for foreign maps.
