I haven't been able to play since the QLPP20 Site Update - March 13, 2014

I start the launcher, click the red PLAY button, wait for it to check game content and when it finishes I click the now green PLAY button and is crashes with the following error. (I just tried to install a fresh copy to a different directory and the same problem occurs)

Know issue already reported weeks ago, they'll either eventually issue a workarround, or change the system requirements (as it only effects ~10 year old CPU's that are not common here)

BROTHBC you're problem is not the same as this,

"System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" looks like you need to reinstall maybe the launcher (redownload first they update it sometimes) maybe .net 3.5.

you may want to try a chkdsk /f on the drive you installed it on as that 'corrupted' warning is worrying.

Thanks for the suggestions Yakumo, I'll take a look at my hard drive drive condition/health and maybe re-install .NET. I assumed it was a bug in the QLPP20 update since QL launched OK right up until I installed it.

Is there a way to revert back to pre-QLPP20 and run it to see if it works or will the launcher automatically update itself?

    Not really.

or will the launcher automatically update itself?
If you run an older version of the launcher, it will say it is not the latest version and provide a link to the current version.

It might let you still try and run the game, but I wouldn't count on it.

Thanks for the feedback, Lorfa. So far I've tried the following, but nothing has helped resolve the problem:

    * Installed a new copy of QL to a different directory and ran the launcher from there
    * ran chkdsk (no errors)
    * made sure all Windows updates were installed
    * made sure .Net 4.5 and 3.5 were installed and enabled
    * looked through the system logs for any clues (didn't see anything obvious)
    * had a nice snack, which helped a bit because snacks are comforting ;-)

My computer is old, but not ridiculously old:
ASUS P5E with Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz and NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT vid card

Maybe this will force me to break my QL addiction? ;-)

I also uninstalled both copies of the application, redownloaded a fresh installer and reinstalled but it still wouldn't work. Also rebooted a few times and disabled virus protection etc etc.

OK, I got it working! I renamed the main QL files directory:
    C:\Users\[my name]\AppData\Local\id Software

and then ran the launcher, which recreated the directory and filled it with the 12 needed files.

I'm not sure what the problem was with the old directory. Probably a file got hosed during the update last week and the installer only over writes files with an earlier date and version number?

more likely some strange file or folder permissions had been set somehow :/

I've had a strange problem many are reporting (that ms have acknowledged but no source for the issue) where the order of folder permissions has been messed up. you only find out if you try and view the permissions for the folder, and windows offers to fix it for you.

I'm suspicious it was installing IIS but i've not seen any confirmation of anything yet.
