Papa bot was initially created as a practice bot for quake 3 with emphasis on q3dm17 ('longestyard' in quake live).
His improved weapon selection makes him more challenging than default bots.
- Place papabot_ql.pk3 in your "%appdata%\..\LocalLow\id Software\quakelive\baseq3" folder.
- Type "/addbot papa 5" in the console once in game.
Adding dodgy "bot" pk3 files to your quakelive directory sounds like a great idea! /sarcasm
How about no.

Actually quite interesting. I didn't know this was possible.
I wonder what all can actually be modified here. Can you only change the values like in botfiles/bots or can you change the coding some like in pw_weap.c?
pw_weap.c was created just for papabot and is actually where most of the 'magic' happens. default bots use fw_weap.c. I wish more could be done about the bot movement & other stuff, but it would involve making a mod which isn't supported.
I played against the bot and I wasn't impressed, he tends to crouch too much, but I was much more impressed with the possibility of using what can be done with these files to create some kind of superbot.
I don't know the extent of the support though. Certainly movement is an issue, as the bots can't strafe jump.
Also is it possible for the bot to know where you are at all times despite the limits of the pvs?
Apparently the bots weren't completely fixed in this patch. I'm noticing their play quickly deteriorates. Within a few frags, they start doing a lot of walking, crouching, not moving and not shooting in general. It only gets worse over time. This seems true for all bots currently and I hope they aren't done patching because there is potential. In Quake 3, papa bot was quite formidable in a straight up q3dm17 match. He could also prove challenging on other maps and game types.
Are you having the same experience? Try loading a fresh map with a fresh bot and see the difference.
He was always shooting/moving, but he started crouching immediately and crouch-walking and such. (paparl 5, bot_thinktime 0, bot_challenge 1)
I don't have this same problem with anarki (anarki 5, bot_thinktime 0, bot_challenge 1)
yeah i do play a lot with the practice bots just for fun. usually i get quite bad ping so i play the bots often! Can you tell me the bot commands please? As a bit of feedback, i would say this bot far outweighs the other bots and feels like much more of a challenge overall. Well Done!!!!
I made some changes so he wont crouch as much w/ a few other small things.
Btw, those weapon specific versions wont be as challenging. He will choose the preferred weapon regardless of the situation. (ie. paparl will shoot rockets from a mile out) The idea was for practice against a specific weapon rather than having him switch when appropriate.
I'm still wondering what causes quake live bots to stop shooting at random times as the match goes on. It may be limited to specific game types...
Team commands don't work in quake live currently. They can only be added and kicked.
