    qlranks FFA elo system borked?

Noticed some oddities in the system. For example, I often lose ELO points for coming in first.

For example, look at my recent matches here:

    http://qlranks.com/ffa/player/julios

on the 4th 5th and 6th rows I came in first (Rank = 1), but I lost ELO on each of those games.

I also often gain ELO when I don't win, even though I'm pretty sure the players that beat me had lower ELO.

I've heard similar things from other players - is the FFA ELO system still in testing or something?

Could it be that I lost ELO because I didn't win by a large enough margin against players who I should have beaten by a larger margin?

I don't think the guys responsible for QLRanks visit this forum and they really are the best sources you can get. You should ask them on #QLRanks. (sirax and szr) (http://qlranks.com/about/)

I've experienced this and wonder about it as well. Sirax has told me that the only factor in the FFA ranking system is placement, not necessarily wins/losses. For instance, if you are a low ranked player in a game full of higher ranked players your ELO will likely jump up even if you place 7th of 8. Thus you have losses that boost your rank. I didn't ask about wins that lower ELO, but another player who seemed to have some understanding of the system seemed to think that if you win in a game where all of the other players are ranked far below you, you will lose ELO no matter what.

If true that's clearly a flaw in their system.

Yes its broken, I've seen players gain elo for quitting.

It does however seem to be biased towards pushing people up on the whole, there are some terrible players wandering about with 2.5k+ elo, number of games played seems to have more bearing than actual quality of games.

OMG! I am ranked 12th... But rather worryingly, deputydawg is ranked higher than me!

One can therefore conclude that the ranking system is entirely corrupt and unreliable, as I know for a fact deputydawg is a newbie with quake skills comparable to that of a juvenile goat.

I also beat him 14 years ago at a LAN before he embarked on his weightloss program.
