same problem started happening to me as soon a switched from Vista to Win7 and partioned HDD with linux. The moment i try to get in a game a tiny window pops-up saying that some colors are incompatible with Win, so they are switched to basic... Has that happened to you? and btw i saw in other posts that updating the drivers might be the reason, did so and didnt help....
Had the same problem when switching to win7, installing latest drivers worked for me.

make sure all drivers are up to date
what did you change before it stopped working?
did you try different browsers?
is there a firewall or something like that? (lol not sure if firewall has to do with fps :P)
Try resetting the game's configuration, should be a console option for that
Try typing cvar_restart in console.
