Even when all those players were in the same room, my FPS was showing solid 125 with no drops, so it doesn't appear to be a FPS lag.

Also on a 100Mbit fiber connection, what would you suggest I set my sv_ settings to? Like Rate and all that? Set them to max?
the less players, the smoother the game play
    Bandwidth!

I meant the server bandwidth. Seems set up for 4-6 not 8 people+specs.

Bandwidth wouldn't be limited per QL server but per physical server.

Is there any way to test his theory? All the lag tests are client side.

I know that :P It's a server running multiple instances of QL. Each with it's own port number.
Since the server space is provided for free via donation... can't the server provider allocate bandwidth per customer.. ie running the bare minimum?

I'm sure you've noticed they reduced player slots from 12 to 8.

The change from 12 to 8 players for FFA was made after a poll taking place on this forum. I doubt it's some grand secret scheme to lower QL's activity. As for the donation thing, it's only for servers in areas where it wouldn't be financially viable to pay for a server. Most servers aren't paid with donations but with id's money. I know that donated servers need to meet some requirements on CPU, RAM and bandwidth in order to be accepted so I guess they already take that into account anyway. In any case, an increase of 2 or 4 players in a single server would not be enough to make a noticeable difference... and that difference would be felt in every single QL server on that physical server since the bandwidth is shared.

A poll? lol.. I'm sure the 34 people voting on it had that much influence... and I never said it was a conspiracy to lower QL's activity....More than likely a financial decision... With such a small player base why pay for top of the line servers? It wouldn't be cost effective considering they make no money from QL. What would be cost effective is pay for the bare minimum. At this level... 2-4 new players on a server would have a definite effect.

    87, actually.

I'm not saying it's a good or a bad thing; I barely ever play FFA so I'll let the others judge that.

Sorry about the conspiracy thing. I'm so used to read ideas like this on this forum that I seem to see it everywhere now .

I actually prefer 8 players... less randomness.

No worries There's crazies everywhere lol
I personally would pay 200 bucks a year if the servers were high quality.
