Quake Live add-on programs and OS Enhancements: what are there?

    Hello fellow Quake players!,

I hope you all are doing well.

Recently, I installed Windows on my imac (finally, I know...please, no anti-Apple posts please. I am a fan of both, but understand that Windows has the edge in the gaming department).

I installed Windows XP Professional 32-bit Edition Service Pack 3.

Here is a list of programs that I am thinking of installing to enhanceQuake Live, or add to it:

    QLPrism
    WolfCam
    Fraps

Please feel free to add to this list if I missed anything.

I know there was one program or setting that you could implement where it lowers your ping by one or two, but I can't remember what it is. I was told by a friend on here that there is a link in a thread on these forums to it. Hopefully this rings a bell to somebody.

Also, I made sure to turn off Pointer Precision in Mouse Settings.

Anything else that I should do?

I look forward to experiencing Quake Live on Windows and improving my game.

    Take care everyone!

    Sincerely, IonicAftershock

    +1 that

Also here's a userscript that's incredibly useful. Think it's not in QLPrism yet

Interesting, thank you! I will try to see if I can get ahold of my friend on here as I was told about something and didn't get the link. This could be it, but I am not sure.

Very cool! That sure does look handy.

I was wondering, are there any settings I should change in the Nvidia Control Panel under Manage 3D Settings, or anywhere in the Nvidia Control Panel (e.g. vertical sync in the Nvidia Control Panel and not just in Quake Live)?

Thank you everyone, and take care.

    Sincerely, IonicAftershock

One good thing about XP is that it is highly tweakable. You might want to start there and check your net settings so they are as clean as possible and not just defaulted. You can test and get tools at www.dslreports.com

As an old mac user.. I've been pushing here for years for what your doing.. QL stinks in OSX (still listed as beta after 2 years) but it's easy to run Windows on your mac.

You might like Quake Live Demo Tools.
Quake Live Demo Tools is a small set of tools for managing, editing and viewing Quake Live

    Get it here

Whats wrong with Apple, pika? It's just another computer. And it runs Windows also. And Linux and so forth..

As a matter of fact.. Apple makes it very easy to run Windows on a Mac... Full speed ahead.. So why the "ewwwww"?

My mac boots OSX, Win7 and Fedora 18..

Technically I should've said "ewwwww Mac", but he said no anti-Apple posts, so I jokingly included it :3

On a side note, I don't really suggest that you download QLPrism. You're better off getting the userscripts manually for what you need. QLPrism is basically just the lazy way out or the uneducated way. I actually found that I used less RAM with Firefox (With things still added) than I did with QLPrism. If it's the inclusion of IRC in the browser that you want, you'd be better of just downloading an IRC client (I recommend HexChat)
