what I've heard that statement of "maps free, only pay for clan management and priv servers" were posted over a year ago, and taken down almost 6 months ago, obviously their first approach to make this BUSINESS work did not pay off.

Maybe it was like: either make people pay a little or abandon the QL project altogether.

If you are referring to the ads before game start - I've noticed that the game actually loads while showing the ads so you don't really have to wait more than you're used to.

Game loads for 15 seconds? Are you playing on a eeepc?
It loads 3-5 seconds tops... on an average pc...

This. It starts loading about 10 seconds in for me, then game sounds start and the biggest annoyance is you suffer quite a bit of lag in the first 20 seconds of actual gameplay from having to stream the video.
