I am partially biased when it comes to Samsung, however I have never come across another monitor as crisp, clear and smooth as my Samsung. The price tag was high (over 600$) but it was worth every penny. I think they may have come out with a newer version of it but here is the one I have

When it comes to FPS and specifically to quakelive, I didn't really notice much of a difference between my 27" viewsonic 60hz and my Samsung 27A950D, but with any other game, rpgs/rts etc mixed with a GTX 680 I have no screen tearing or visual issues to complain about.
