Frya, just stop. That's a part of what's wrong with the internet these days, people half-inventing stuff as they go along giving off the impression that they know a lot about a subject when they really know very little. What could you have tell us that we would find interesting? And if it's to help another new person then it's even worse, because you're giving the impression as if these things you're claiming are based on something other than what you read in the past ten minutes.

Caps is a decent button (I use it for PG), and it's best hit with the ring finger as you would know if you played this game for many hours.

Aways ensure you are maintaining a high FPS rate in QL. Otherwise you can be at a big disadvantage. To find out your current fps rate, use the command: "set cg_drawfps "1"".

I'm asking some noob questions in this topic. You call that "telling" some things to experienced players?
Am I arguing with somebody in this topic? I'm not even discussing anything.
Quote me, stating something in a manner of "I know everything about Quake, bow before me".

You want to know things better? Ok, I'm surrounded by guys like you. All damn cocky, masters of the whole universe. Go ahead. You probably know things better.
You want to use this topic to show other users how good you are? By attacking new players? It's my topic dude, so do it if you like. I'm sure other players reading this can judge your attitude.

The caps key is definitely to be hit with the pinky.

Almost all keys will be hit with fingers in the same way that they would in proper typing practice.

I actually agree on having Q for chat being a waste.

    Since chatting requires me to place my hands on the home keys, I use L. That way my right hand will be in its proper place when I start typing. Probably any of the home row keys to be hit with the right hand would work for this idea, so J K L ;

Note: When binding semicolon type "bind semicolon" as the character itself means something special to the console so bind ; won't work.

That's what I thought at first, because you have to leave a movement key. But after a lot of experience with it I find the ring finger far better, at least for me. It feels quicker and more controlled once you get used to it. You're almost never in a situation where you have to be dodging that particular exact way at that time. My pinky is already on shift and ctrl for SG and zoom.

THE CAPS LOCK KEY IS EXCELLENT AS A WEAPON BIND. FURTHERMORE, IF YOU FAIL TO DEACTIVATE IT, YOU CAN CHAT IN CAPS. MALE QUAKELIVE PLAYERS WILL FEAR AND HATE YOU FOR IT, BUT FEMALE QUAKELIVE PLAYERS WILL LOVE YOU FOR YOUR TENACITY. FACT.

Yep, which is why I never bind caps to anything :-)

It should definitely be hit with the pinky though. Otherwise it is bad typing practice and could lean to hand strain :-)

    Are you trying to troll?

Don't use the word "definitely", say it's in your opinion. Your opinion, not "definitely". Because definitely is wrong.

It's not "bad typing practice", that's nonsense. Your fingers are on different keys than when they're "typing" first of all. I think using your pinky finger would lead to more strain, I am sure it would for me.

Solid advice for quakestreme, we all know he gets more than enough hand strain elsewhere

What's your problem? Have you slipped a cog?

    No, it's definitely right.

The fingers aren't on different keys than they would be in proper typing practice if you use esdf, and just one over if you use wasd.

Caps has a greater actuation pressure than the other keys on many keyboards, so I can see why you'd be tempted to hit it with your ring finger, but it would be better just to strengthen your pinky.

The wrist moves slightly to compensate when using the ring finger and this is not good, not to mention it also pulls the rest of your fingers slightly off the movement keys.

I play some duels with bots on Blood Run.

    So things I noticed.

I've lowered my sensitivity as adviced, to 4. Not the lowest, not the highest. Acceleration 0.
I've always used high sensitivity in games, moving my hand with mouse so much is very awkward for me. I used small mouse pad, so without it I'm playing on my desk, which has small bumps in some places, so it sucks, it restricts my movements... My aiming is lame, I need to buy a nice pad (I have simple 800 dpi Logitech optic mouse, I think it's sufficient.)

But should I add some mouse acceleration?

I can defeat them, quiet easely, but just timing Mega and picking shields faster than them is suffitient to win. Without it they would eat me, they aim better than me...

I think I can correct my aim with practice and better pad, but moving around the map is giving me a really hard time...
Not just strafing and jumping. I free roam around the map like a pacman, without any plan etc.

    Do best players constantly strafe?
For me it's hard to jump and not block on some walls etc. If I'm lucky I can do like 2 jumps with speed hitting 400-500 before blocking on something. But I noticed, that the most important things about increasing speed are: not loosing speed (making jump after the jump) and constant mouse movements.

Do I need to build a list with friends to play duels with somebody?
I see that some people are doing this...

In World of Tanks is like this:
Me and my friends from clan playing World of Tanks. Getting skill together.

In Quake it seems to be:
    Me alone and Quake.
Playing against some strangers on servers.
    Me against elite players.

I think it's very hard to "socialise" in Quake.
Maybe that's the problem with it's demise? In times of internet cafes populairity in Poland and Russia people socialised around Quake. Now it's gone.

But in WoT there are easy tools to make a clan.
Clans are competing on Clan Wars map. This map is watched nearly by all WoT players. So everybody knows which clans are successful. Victories give rewards (in game currency, players can buy premium accounts with it) for players.

I'm so inspired by this clips:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7wN9-kQH6M&hd=1 (This is not for 2012 gamers? It looks far more interesting than Shootmania or other FPS games. There's nothing like it damn...)
