The only practical difference are hitbeeps.
That's with rockets. There isn't a difference. However, withe every other weapon in the game other than the BFG, there is a huge difference. Quad Damage:
-Turns the Machinegun and the Shotgun into practical weapons where they'd normally be useless.
-Turns thye Railgun into an Instagib Rifle
-Turns the Plasma Gun and the Chaingun into rapid firing crowd control weapons.
-Turns the Lightning Gun into a crowd-eliminating super weapon that, in the hands of a master, is completely and totally unstoppable.

It's the same with ANY weapon. Your examples don't make any sense when the victim has 300 health... Damage is x3, but enemy health is x3 as well.

When the victim has 300 health instead of 100, you still need to hit 20 MG bullets, meaning around 5 seconds of combat at 40% accuracy. Your profile shows 18% average, so 10+ seconds of quad MG. I call that useless weapon.

See, the weapon balance is identical if you multiply players' health by the same factor that quad multiplies damage. The only thing that changes is hitbeeps, really.

    True, haven't thought of that.

Another thing is effect of health/armor pickups, as taking MH or RA is adding 1/3 of your starting health, instead of doubling it.

Only the Gladiator starts at 200/100. Everyone else starts off at 125/0 and degenerates like normal.

I meant that they're supposed to have more health than other players on purpose so they aren't as easy to kill as normal players.

If everyone has 300 hp, that includes the Quad Hog. Health doesn't decay below the starting health [1] and the rest of the players have normal weapons. Only Quad Hog has 3x damage bonus.

This means that it takes 3 full rockets to kill a Quad Hog, or 4 rails, or 43 LG cells etc. - just as in your Gladiator mode.

At the same time, it takes 1 full rocket for Quad Hog to kill one of the victims, or 2 rails, or 15 LG cells etc. - just as in your Gladiator mode.

    [1] unless you use handicap
