    Gladiator Mode

This is an idea for a free-for-all based game mode called Gladiator. In this mode, players compete to be the "Gladiator", a glowing combatant with an edge over other players. These are the central rules of the game.

-The player that kills the Gladiator becomes the next Gladiator.
-Upon becoming the Gladiator, the player's health and armor immediately peak at 200 points each.
-The Gladiator is immune to the effects of health/armor degeneration. Their health and armor only decrease when attacked.
-Only the Gladiator can score for kills.

As such, players compete to score the most kills as the Gladiator.

So it's a slight variation of QuadHog?

It's not necessarily like QuadHog. The Gladiator doesn't have any special powers other than being immune to health/armor degeneration. Outside of that, they're the only person who can score for kills, but that's about it.

I guess it's shares a similar concept to QuadHog. Still, I think it'd be a damn fine competitive game mode.

The key difference between Gladiator and QuadHog is that nobody is stronger than anyone else, and the Gladiator is the only player who can score for kills. This forces the other competitors to seek out the Gladiator and kill them, and makes it more of a one-vs-100 ordeal for the Gladiator.

I'm sure you can spawn Quad Hog with 1x quad (so no damage bonus at all).

But what you want is the same as Quad Hog with high starting health:
    - you want more health for Gladiator but normal power of weapons to fight opponents with standard health,
    - Quad Hog with high starting health (200/100 let's say) still has Gladiator with more health, but opponents die equally fast.
See, they have more health, but quad kills them faster.

Normal Quad Hog without health bonus has a bit different balance than what you seek. But increase health for everyone and it's practically the same. Only difference would be that you wanted no points for killing the Gladiator.

You're thinking of Last Man Standing rounds, right? Despite being a common multiplayer gametype, I have yet to see it in Quake Live. It would actually be a pretty nice idea.

I actually meant that, upon the start of the game, the first Gladiator would start off with 200 health/armor and would be immune to health/armor degen effects until they die. Everyone else starts with normal health and is subject to the effects of health/armor degeneration. In other words, the Gladiator has more health and armor than other players, but has no advantages otherwise. Also, because only the Gladiator can score, everyone else is going to want to become Gladiator, both to score kills and to gain the immediate health/armor bonus.

Also, since the Gladiator doesn't do any more damage than the other players, the Gladiator status is more likely to be passed around from player to player.

    Explain me the difference between:

    1. A 200/100 player hits a direct rocket at a 100/0 player, dealing 100 damage and killing him.

    and

    2. A 200/100 player hits a direct quad rocket at a 200/100 player, dealing 300 damage and killing him.

The only practical difference are hitbeeps.

Quad Hog is a funny mode. You have to balance the number of players to the map very carefully. Too few and the Hog dominates completely because he has time to stack. Too many and it just ends in a massive scrum with the Hog dying immediately in a huge hail of rockets and grenades. I've had some very funny matches where everyone just stares at the dropped Quad, knowing that to touch it is to die
