    Improve your ping

    Hi
I've had issues with high ping since I started playing - averaging about 57 ping to maidenhead server (I live in the UK). Whilst an engineer was out fixing something on my poo phone line he mentioned some called interleaving that causes high ping when gaming. Alas I phoned up my internet provider and asked them to switch it off. After about 24 hours, And since, I have been pinging a stable 33 ping.
    The end

That will only work for DSL (over POTS) users. It is a modulation type used by DSLAM on the ISP side. You get error correction and buffering service from DSLAM for smoother data flow, but the penalty is 20+ms overhead. He did a good job telling you to ask support to switch it to fast. The only downside might be download speed dropping periodically and getting up, but I have tested that on several different lines and equipment and never had any bad results.

P.S. Also keep in mind, not all telephone lines may support that feature or require to lower the bandwidth, due to their quality affecting SNR, etc.

Interleaving helps reduce error related problems in transmitting data by spreading them out and making them more able to be recovered. Don't think it's of any use in a realtime system such as Quake but I hope you other net related tasks don't suffer because of it lol
