Ubuntu 12.04/Gnome 3.4.2
I also sudo'ed the command with the proper path to the file.
It locks.. Open QL=Poof goes the file.. Not running as root as far as I know.
No biggie.... Also tried chmod 400.. Same thing.

ok, I've got it!
just make the containing folder (baseq3) read only (chmod a-w baseq3) and the file will persist. just remember to make it writeable for updates again.
