Nowadays this isn't really necessary. Other than cl_maxpackets 125 and rate 25000, 95% of everything you need is in the in-game esc menu.
Just start a practice game and get it how you like it and /writeconfig autoexec.cfg
Repeat this when you make changes you want to keep.
It's all about finding out what works for you. What works for them may not work for you at all. there is no magic .cfg
Disable post processing unless your pc can nail 125fps using it.

You really need to read through this thread...

I'm making a shortened console list guide with recommendations, but won't be done for at least a week.

There are 1,274 commands+cvars, which I shortened to 232 cvars and 55 commands by removing the ineffectuals and stuff you really don't need to worry about.

Explaining them all and adding recommendations/ideas.

My advice to you: Go to the meny, Preset config, "high preformence", bind your keys and set your sensitivity, use the default "big hud".

Now you have a config that is in every way as good as the next guys. I have a cleaned up config which is the result from years of tinkering in q3 and it is in almost every aspect the same as id's "high performence config", go figure, time well spent.

How did you determine that? :-)

Since cvarlist has left things out in the past for me, I just hit tab after each letter for the auto-complete. For example a [tab] [enter], then made several con dumps as there's some kind of line limit for a single condump. I appended each one and removed the extemporaneous syntax then did a line count.

I suppose my line count could have been off since I had to do it a bit manually by subtracting the extra lines made by cvars like sv_paknames.
