Hitbox different for shots from above?
Two days ago while playing FFA in Wargrounds, I used the rocket launcher to kill a player directly beneath me while we both were zooming up the tall jump pad in the central chamber.
He had just respawned (we were the only two left in the game after some quits), but one rocket put him away. He typed, "One rocket? ***?" - maybe implying I was using some kind of cheat.
Since then, I seem to notice that weaps impacting the top of the hitbox from above seem to have greater effect. Is this true, and known to pretty much everybody but me?
I don't know what's happening with this forum, will I be the first to say:
Demo or it didn't happen.
(Game link can help too - we'd be able to see if it was a spawned server with customizations.)
And no, there should be no difference from which direction you get damage. The only exception I can think of are headshots if enabled, but those are not available for rockets. The only rocket hit bug I know of is that some direct hits are registered as splash damage, but that would mean you won't kill a guy with 85 health with a direct rocket, not that you can kill a guy that has 120 health with one rocket.

Hmmm...I'm not sure how fall damage works - but could it be possible he was in mid air (strafing or whatever) and the push from the rocket accelerated him into the ground to lose the extra 20ish? But yeah - demo or didnt happen
Yes, it depends on speed with which you hit the ground (so a rocket from above can make you crater from really low heights), but maximum fall damage is 10, so we're still missing 15 hp somewhere. I guess he could have spawned above by the SG (two spawns in that area), dropped down to YA losing 5 hp before going up the JP with the OP. We still miss 10 hp but that could have been 2 MG bullets before that rocket.
did OP register a frag ?..if so falling damage can be discounted.
