    Performance on OS X

    Hi,

I'm trying to run QL on Chrome on a late 2011 Macbook pro with a AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics card but the fps seems to be stuck at around 85 fps. The mouse input is choppy and the game just feels slow. However, when I run QL on the same mac but on the Windows partition, it runs absolutely fine. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to get the same performance on OS X.

    Thanks,

It's been like this since forever - I think the best, easiest work around is to create a windows partition on your mac purely for QL (although you might end up using other games as well through it). It's very very easy to do using the bootcamp program included as part of OSX.

I made a 100gb partition just for running windows games and it's as easy as holding alt on boot-up to select which OS you want. Yeah, it sucks having to run windows on a mac - but the OSX client for QL is still in beta.

The other major issue with OSX is the mouseaccel which is forced on you through the OS, although this can be disabled using this guide: http://osxdaily.com/2010/06/02/kill-...-command-line/

Not a lot you can do running OSX. I started this game in OSX on my macbook and quickly tired of dealing with the flaws.

One thing that will help your mouse accell is to use steermouse.. http://plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/

Remember that OSX is still listed as beta after more then 2 years and Id does not have a mac developer for the game.

Bootcamping XP on my macbook worked a treat..125 fps, no more browser crashes, friends list working.. QLprism, Quake Live Demo tools and Wolfcam working, etc etc.

Unfortunately my macbok was old and had an Intel X3100 graphics card which Id admits they have problems with.

I'm now running the game on a cheap Compaq CQ56 with a better graphics card, Ubuntu Linux 12.04 and all is well except for my crappy playing (my fault)

So advice..Just keep running it on your windows partition..

And out of technical curiosity: what is causing this? Is this a problem with tech 3, os or drivers?

Id did not make a decent Port of Quake for OSX( At least they are honest enough to call it a "beta"). As stated..they now have no OSX developer.

Best bet.. Bootcamp XP or Linux and play the game at full speed..

I run OSX, Win7, Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit.. I'll use whatever system plays the game best. In QL's case.. Linux wins.

In this case.. OSX runs the game very poorly. I spent 6 months..tweaking the mouse, different drivers, different browsers, making my own Prism launcher, etc..etc. Meh.. Just bootcamp it.. You'll be very happy..

I'm a mac fan .. But I'm not an idiot..
