It's hard to get map knowledge in CA when there's no items / weapon pickups and when 99% of servers play campgrounds and overkill in loop.

Yeah, it's hard to get your duel going when you're a free player due to the maps. However, if you subscribe or have a pro subscriber friend, you should be good. If not, the only maps you need to play on duel that are decent are t7(furiousheights) and to a lesser extent dm6(campgrounds). Anyways, I think you should understand map awareness and the basics from CA. Try and build your aim a little too. Work on movement as well. When you feel you have somewhat decent combat skills, take on duel. You won't win atleast the first 15 games, unless you play with people worse than you. Try and ask your enemy how to get better. Usually, if they're nice enough, they'll love to help(especially in tier 3 servers). There's tons of guides available here as well that you can look through. See a lot of demos on youtube and how the professionals play the game. You will see progress if you put time and effort into it. Doing the same thing over and over again is not effort, it's just time that's being wasted. You'll never get better if you don't practice. However, what you do during practice matters greatly. The best way to learn is to realize that regardless of whether you win or not, you should play your best. Don't be nervous, and don't get mad. Relax.
Thanks for the advice.
I think I wont start dueling before a month or two at least then.
If you need to find some help on dueling, you could read the Quake Live Dueling Guide: http://www.quakelive.com/forum/showt...ive-Duel-Guide
