    Looking for some config advice!

I still consider myself very new to Quake, and I'm looking for some advice on configuring my game to maximize my performance.

Right now the only things I have tweaked are the following:
    • r_picmip 8
    • FOV = 120
    • Reticle = large circle with the little dot in the center, small size
    • Force enemy model: bright Keel (I think this is on by default?)

What do the better players generally tweak to enhance their game? I think the QL HUD is perfectly fine, so I'm more interested in tweaking settings in the various options panels and such.

Thank you! Have a good one.

P.S. If it helps (I have absolutely no clue) my laptop has a resolution of 1440x900.

Start with this - http://www.quakelive.com/forum/showt...g-%282-cfgs%29, it has pretty much everything you will need.

Pros' configs from Dreamhack Winter 2011. Execute some of these, see what settings do you like and keep them. Some of those are also well organized which makes it easy to manage.

PS Fov 120 is relatively high value.

If I had say only one thing, I'd say make sure you play with cg_kickscale 0.

Ooooh, fancy! Are there any particular configs that are generally recommended?

Is FOV 120 really that high? o.O What do most upper level players play with? 110?

    - rather than pro configs i'd recommend the link from the ql forums about the competitive settings
    - famous caster and q4-proplayer did a show on essential ql config tweaks here http://www.twitch.tv/thegdstudio/b/315398719
    - duellers specially use fovs up to 100, because they'll always know where their opponent is, additionally you won't meet a 2nd opponent suddenly which can happen in teamgames, I'd say 110 should be a maximum for serious play

    Hi

The console guide stickied in this section is really well done and thorough. Once you find some cfg stuff you like go there and learn how to understand and tweak stuff to your liking even more. Sit in a practice server and just play with the console.

It can seem a lot to move down from 120 to 110, but it will feel normal quick enough and I think you'll like the improvement in accuracy. I did for sure.

I use a simple cfg myself as most of my issues are positioning and beer intake related.

Stermy's config is very simple and clear.

    Same with Noctis' config.

My config is even more clear. There is a copy at configs.eu:

    http://configs.eu/_quakelive/configd...file=Lorfa.rar

I've changed some things since but it is mostly the same.

In my opinion you should use between 90 and 110.

Thank you all so much for the advice, I'll be working on this more thoroughly after my exams.

So why is 120 too high? In the other shooter I play (Fortress Forever [TFC in the Source engine in the form of a mod]), 120 is the standard FOV for pickup players and such. Does it have something to do with hitboxes?

I use the keel bright model for enemies, and the Sarge model for myself and my teammates. Would this affect what FOV I should be using? Along with my 1440x900 resolution laptop screen.
