What is the best Quake advise you've received?

We were all noobs once, and every now and then we will ask questions or be lucky enough to get golden nuggets of information passed down by the quake gods.
With so many different play styles, game modes, console commands and tweaks it can be hard for a new player (even vets) to put everything together so it all clicks just right.
Is there anything you heard or found out about that dramatically changed your game for the better?

For me it was when someone told me to adjust my fov and mouse sensitivity to my play style. Nearly doubled my score from that point on and to this day its the first thing I mess with when I'm not playing well.

    1. Defrag mods for quake3 or defrag quakelive maps. These improved my movement beyond measure.
    2. Learned also how to make a custom cfg and hud through the process and my game thought process changed also.
    3. Getting to T4 at duels will improve your gameplay in ALL mods.

    Just do it
Omg I beat ppl at this game sometimes.

I had that moment. It was hmm let me think, I think it was IEM V. OK I found link :

That really turned my gameplay over 180 degrees, to better side ofc. It was that moment definitely.

Let me type some of this tip here : "You have to choose situations when to be aggressive and when to not". // Cooller

So simple ya know, but it's so true.

Edit : Oh and I just remembered another one, also very important : "Watch ur back"

best advice i ever got: dont play too much. take a rest every few days, go for a walk, do something else. too much quake drains your concentration and you get into bad playing habits.
