How the hell am I supposed to learn to duel??

Ok, so I'm getting sick of clan arena and want to go to duel, but I can't even touch anyone there! Is everyone at duels so badass? I'm sick of practicing duels, all the bots are so stupid and easily fraggable in any skill level. But whenever I join an online server, I get violated like a little boy in a confession booth! Like this last game for example, I lost 27:-2, on a server that's supposed to be my skill level!

I need a really sucky new Quake friend that wants to practice duels, but doesn't know how to turn a computer on by himself. Actually maybe a girl, that could work even better. HELP ME!

Mastering FFA and TDM is the first step towards dueling.

Most ppl in duel are really good thats true. Its Important to learn item timing, positioning and strategy. Otherwise the best aim wont help u.

i dunno ur skill, but ive got a little story here
me and some friend of mine, we never duel
were like quite the same skills, im a bit better though i think
we dueled, and i won like 15-1
you know how? that other guy didnt pick up the health, and i did

from the start, get a gun that fits u quite ok, then go get the healths right away
dont go look for ur enemy, just keep collecting healths till u see him

if u were a bloody noob this might help, otherwise, i dont really think so.. xD

There are a lot of recommendation and guides written about dueling. I first started by watching demos of pros play and then trying things that I saw there in-game. I would say concentrate first on timing, or at least timing only one item.

Edit: as Rox says watching vids and/or demos of the pro´s is a good idee too. U can find here the vids of Quakecon Finals and here the demos from past QC events (2010 is not included yet)

watch other people and get advice. And think of multiple things you can do in a duel at all times. And learn the maps really well. that's basically it.
