Half Beat guide! Learn this awesome strafe jumping style!

    Hi guys!

Welcome to half beating! I just made this tutorial vid which you might be interested in:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw3vIeLPPHs

Hope you enjoy and find it useful.

Half beating is simple once you learn it, and it can be much better than the full beat, although, all styles are as good, just some of them are easier for humans to perform.

The map used in the vid is raztrainql_beta3 by Raz3r, which is awesome to practice on. Once upon a time I couldn't do Lane 2... Then I tried noob half beating and did it. Then I was stuck on Lane 3 for many months but then suddenly learned to half beat correctly and did Lanes 3-6 in one day. Now I can do all 8 Lanes.

Reply and tell me what you think! If you tried half beating, let me know how it went!

nice guide, well written and edited. Also, the music is very fitting. Maybe this is also helpful for people.

Okay, I can strafe jump full and half, but not well enough to do well on the pads. In the map, xcm_tricks2/race, I can attain over 800ups within about 5 jumps, but as stated, I don't do well on the pads. Oddly, (from what I have read, that using these keys) I use the arrow keys for direction and delete for jump. I can see that WASD is used for forward, left, back, right. But which key is used here for jump? Or is a mouse button used? Nothing is stated in the tutorial as far as this is concerned. Also, what mouse sens range is most suited for this. I know it's personal preference specific, but there must be an optimal range.

Great guide, gonna try it out. But the choice of music was overused and unfitting; had to mute it while watching.

EDIT: Just had 20 minutes of half beat practice, and at the end of it I managed to finish the fifth lane which I've never done with normal strafe jumping. Half beat is f***ing awesome.

I feel that it is very easy to do the flicks accurately as you switch from A to D, and it is also very easy to keep the air strafing consistent throughout the lane. With normal strafing, large left to right flick followed by smooth air strafe can be hard to achieve, especially for anyone with even medium sensitivity which requires more than just regular wrist movement.

I use space to jump, and mouse sensitivity is around 3, I think. I believe it also depends on your desktop mouse speed.

Good to hear that, crucci! Keep it up!

Then how do you push jump without releasing one of the arrows?

Usually WASD is used with space for jump, but there are plenty of other possibilities, including mouse buttons.

Not sure what that means, since no one knows your DPI and m_yaw.

I believe it also depends on your desktop mouse speed.
Not if you use in_mouse 2 (raw input) like most players.

Good to hear that, crucci! Keep it up!
    Thanks
