replace forum with web-based irc client

    and 2-3 different channels

    #quakelive (general discussion/getting started)
    #qlservice (technical support/getting started)
    #qlfeedback (suggestions/bug reports)

put on every channel the same bot, that has a simplified UI in the web based client, for the FAQs (the bot could be called crash like the one in the tutorial)

channel ops can add FAQs to the bot like quotes

that way less energy has to be spend on maintaining etiquette in a forum and can, instead, be put into constructive things

it would centralize communication more.. right now it is fragmented between in-game chat, that XMPP chat, the forum and IRC... reducing that amount of communication ways will tie the community closer together and announcing stuff like "hey come to this server.. blablabla" reaches more people at once...

the web-based IRC client could also be resizeable to the size of a shoutbox...

an IRC client could be integrated into the game console (not a new idea) so people don't have to leave the game to access the FAQ (the bot)... lol.. the IRC-FAQ-bot could even spawn as a bot in the game and show what he is "talking" about..

but then i wouldnt be able to have the most posts. irc is for chatting, forums are for posting. you can post something last week and someone can read it now, without having to go into logs etc.

forums > irc, when it comes to being a forum.

99% of the posts in this forum is you confusing posts with frags or "cool" people confusing this place with 4chan...

1% can be turned in FAQs (see bot)

Have to agree with KittenIgnition on this, one suggestion I had a while ago is to make a Quake Live wiki page, and link it to the main site in a banner or something. If loads of people contributed to that, it would be a perfect source of information for anyone, you could browse categories for scripts and cvar lists, starting guides etc. rather than searching a forum for individual tidbits of information.
A forum should still be here of course, it's nice for people to share videos here and ask for fragmovie demos, suggestions and general discussions are great, because you can make polls to see people's opinions and discuss things like the strafejumping halls in a single thread. These are things you wouldn't be able to do in IRC...
For asking questions though IRC is great... but the getting started forum is still quite active and if it was just an IRC channel there would be only two or three people trying to help, the one person who knows the perfect solution might simply be asleep or not reading it and then they can't tell them how to fix it.

that cool... it could be based on Yakumo's QuakeLive Guide (and all FAQs collected by the bot)

the big idea was to help mods replacing this forum with something better (read my suggestions above... again... slower...)

i have seen posts here that are worse than youtube comments... it must be demotivating to waste time with that..

I agree with KittenIgnition and fraggedICE. Forum is forum, some are looking for info, others like posting, other are very smart. At irc, you won't get such support as in the forums. Deal with.

But a wiki page would be awesome, I would like to see my quide at it. It's not finished, I want to add more videos, pictures, video making stuff and some more.
