Some maps a lot brighter or darker than others [fixes]

This problem should only be occurring if you have manually edited config variables, the map system was in fact improved to try and prevent this, but it couldn't be done without causing some issues for those with extremely tweaked cfgs.

    I would recommend
r_overBrightBits "0" //objects too shiny otherwise in my oppinion
r_mapOverBrightBits "2" //one of the major causes of map brightness variation problems, keep default as it's what people use when making the maps.

They also added r_mapOverBrightCap which you may experiment with as well / instead.

The problem isn't solved for me with those settings.

I played with my current settings (similar to the recommended above) for a few months and Retribution and Almost Lost were playable at some point, but stopped being playable after updates were made. For Almost Lost it was the update on 2nd february 2011 and for Retribution some update in autumn/winter 2010.

    Edit:
Iron Works is now dark too.

isn't the crosshair less bright with that?

    well i suggest r_mapoverbrightbit 5-10
    & r_mapoverbrightcap 255 (150 if map is too bright)

Can different cfg files be loaded for different maps automatically?

No. But you can make binds to apply specific settings.

Something is with maps not settings - with all this "recommended" values we can make maps brighter, but not more contrast. All textures are the same grey (i mean almost lost first of all). Would they be brighter or darker I dont care, I want them to be more CONTRAST, as they were, the floor was lighter than border textures and small elements (you know what i mean).

Im having issues with siberia and asylum. In siberia the flag and all players are very bright which makes it hard to distinguish.

It got better with the adjustments above, but its still not good :/

    help?

    lower r_gamma, dude!
For spacectf (with my other setts in cfg) I use r_gamma 1.5, but for other maps 0.9 - 1.2
