Since switching to a supported browser, the issue vanished with the notable exception of friends who are using unsupported browsers and/or Macs.

I have been using the IE Tab extension with Chrome—works pretty well.

Yeah, you really don't want to do that. Besides the aforementioned text issues, there are other bugs that can manifest if you leave +acc on all the time. Same with +scores.

Please include your system specifications in any reports, especially browser and OS. Video card and driver version may help also.

Chrome, Opera, and Safari are not yet officially supported. They know about the friend invite issue with unsupported browsers; it's mentioned in the DevBlog.
