I plan on designing the basic lay out of my map in mine craft and then building it in GTK. Might help some people instead of going into GTK blindly its easier to visualize.

I actually considered doing the same thing. While I don't actually have any plans in the near future (Or far future, for that matter) to make a map -- I'd always thought that it'd be helpful for me to attempt to make one in Minecraft first at least to get a basic idea. However, if the map were too intricate, you'd have to increase the scale in Minecraft to compensate.
There are a bunch of valid techniques to plan a map; there is even dedicated software for floorplans. Personally, I just use a black pen on grid paper with 1 square == 64 units for pre production work. :)
Of course, if you feel like you can get a better picture in Minecraft that's perfectly fine as well!
dunno where to put this: can u make a map, that becomes smaller over time. i think it would be cool to play CA on a map thats big and then theres rooms with ceilings that move down (and kill you if ur are late) and stuff. there are moving parts on some maps, can you make them move veryy slow?
Hey ybl,
you could have just opened a new thread for your question.
However, what you describe would be possible using a func_bobbing entity.
1. Create the wall/ceilling/whatever that you want to move
2. convert the object to a func_bobbing (select it, right click,func,func_bobbing)
3. Choose the axis you want the object to move on by ticking one of the boxes in the entity inspector (select your object, press N)
4. Choose the speed the object needs for a full cycle (func_bobbing makes objects move up and down, that's why we talk abotu cycles) - 20 minutes is the common CA match length, that's 1200 seconds - consequently, the propper speed value would be 2400 (1200 seconds to move down and 1200 seconds to move up)
Hope it helps. :)
hmyeah, i thought someone else could do it, im too incompetend
so its not possible to make it so that the map changes per round it seems, this would make more sens
What about Lego? I've always wanted to see a classic map done in Lego.... But maybe you build the map there first and it'll become instant classic :D
@ ybl: Don't think like that, just give it a try!
@ Dr_Mr_Ed: Sure you can use Lego to plan a map, if it helps.. :)
If you got any more questions regarding this let me know. :)
