Are you sure that was employee's decision? Aside from that, seems legit.
Probably, same goes for transparency and talk to your community - you just can't if you signed NDA.

Syncerror himself said that he reached ESL but they rejected the money offer. Why isn't he stepping up so quake is not dropped out of DH too?
Yep, as of this moment dh winter 2012 was the last one that will have quake, therefore there's only one stable event a year (quakecon) and even on that one prize money and organization is not provided by id software.
And that's just live tournaments, because the prizes that id has given in online cups are laughable and very sporadic.
Official version is syncerror offered ESL the exact same amount of money as LoL, which is hard to believe considering id software has practically put 0 in 5 years of QL whereas Riot Games has put more than $10m, and ESL turned it down because of viewers.
DH dropped quake not because of viewers but because of not enough top players attending, which is directly related to prize money and more importantly the amount of events every year (there were few in 2012 because of the lack of ESL events. I think there were exactly 5 international lans, 3 with duel on them which are the usual majors) and not top players dropping out after signing up to the event. The decision had absolutely nothing to do with viewers, which btw is pretty good for dreamhack standards in games that aren't LoL, sc2 and dota2 (5k).
